Sophie and her compost

My daughter, princess that she is, loves to dig in the dirt. She loves to garden and she is happily creating a compost on our side yard now. She absolutely loves to recycle too. For those of you who know my abilities with growing things this may seem like a miracle, but I believe she got this gene from my mom and my grandmother. If I want to get a plant for the house (I have three) I have to buy those ones that you cannot kill no matter what. The ones that will wilt totally down with no water or care and then you finally remember to water them and they perk right up.

Well, Sophie is the opposite. She planted a pumpkin seed from her pumpkin she carved in October and has babied it through the entire winter and it bloomed this week. A pumpkin does not like to grow in cold weather, but she covered it with a box with every frost and has nurtured it so we have a pumpkin growing in our deserty backyard. She also is growing sunflowers from the seeds in our window sill right now. She needs no reminder to water her plants or move them to the sunshine. Now she has started a compost so we put all of our vegetable scraps, coffee grounds, etc in it. She is like this cute little "hippie" in my house I love it!!

A Phoenix Snowman

Okay, I have been looking at everyone's beautiful snow pictures this winter and finally I get to post one of my own. This is a winter storm in the valley. It rained and rained and then we had a 5 minute hailstorm which was almost over before I got my camera. Sophie and I had a blast watching the hail come down her slide and form our "snowman" at the bottom. So, here is our version of a snowstorm in Peoria, Arizona!!
